Dante and her son Amedeo, back in Connecticut for a week. They've been having a good time, and catching up on the latest developments. He's at Kent boarding school. Grandpa Patrick is holding things together here in LA.
When I see how they look in another environment I'm struck by the subtle differences it makes. As a painter I realize how each color shares tints with adjacent colors. Blue next to yellow will look different than the same blue next to red. Nothing is absolutely separated from anything. My daughter and grandson are changed in a changed background.
We must be a closer family than I thought. How do you even know how close or distant families are? You have to figure it out. Small families seem more connected, but not always. I grew up in a large family and this gave me a lot of time to crawl off alone without being missed. I think it made me more detached. But this trait often comes across as cold, or a bit too cool. It's what I am, though.
